Home Depot EDI: How does your Business become EDI compliant with The Home Depot

Founded in 1978 in the United States, The Home Depot is the largest home improvement retailer of bathroom decorating items, patio furniture, supplying tools and construction products. The Home Depot operates retail stores across the United States and its territories Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, and Mexico. Today, The Home Depot has a total of 2,200 stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico with 400,000 employees.

Any company that wants to become a merchandise supplier on the Home Depot platform, needs to follow 2 important steps.

a. Product Approval Process

• Submit the Home Depot’s new product submission form online
• Insert the attractive short description, photographs relevant pricing and ordering information of the product
• Add customer testimonials, patents and other documentation
• Add contact and website info

b. The Home Depot EDI Program

To be among the Home Depot suppliers, you must be able to exchange documents electronically in accordance with x12 EDI standards. CommerceHub is the EDI provider for Home Depot. Before starting the EDI Implementation, you will need to contact The Home Depot EDI Department and setup an account with them. You will need a 3rd Party EDI service like Infocon Systems to help you setup an EDI connection with CommerceHub/Home Depot. Once you are setup with Infocon Systems, we will assign you a Project Manager who will then communicate with the CommerceHub representative for testing the documents and eventually put you in production when you start getting orders from Home Depot.

As a supplier of Home Depot your company may be required to send the following EDI business document types:

• Payment Order/Remittance Advice (820)
• Purchase Orders (850)
• Purchase Order Acknowledgements (855)
• Shipping Notices (856)
• Acknowledgements (997)
